IT'S GETTING EASIER:

If I ever gave anyone the impression that the first few months of being a new mom was easy, I was probably lying to your face.  The adjustment was hard, I didn't feel like myself, and I couldn't multi-task.  The only thing I could get done in a 24 hour period was take care of Jett.  I was forgetting to do things (anyone who knows me well knows that my memory is what I pride myself on).

All of a sudden over the last couple of weeks, things have started to change.  Either Jett is getting easier or I am getting better at this.  Maybe both.  And I suppose that now that I've adjusted to this phase, something new is right around the corner.  But little by little I am feeling more like myself (or at least a new version of myself).  I was telling Jake last night that I've loved Jett since the day I met him but I just recently started to REALLY like him.  I know that sounds funny/harsh.  What I mean by that is that our relationship is going both ways now.  I make him happy and he makes me happy.  The 1st month was filled with feelings of euphoria but it was also such a fog.  The 2nd month some of those euphoric feelings wore off and I just felt overwhelmed at times.  As we are approaching 3 months, I am feeling completely different.  Instead of looking forward to the next phase, I am absolutely loving where we are at right now.

Going back to work has been good and Jett is adjusting well to daycare.  I've been getting great reports about him.  It makes it a lot easier for us to take him there when we know it's going well for him.

We have been lucky and feel like we have a pretty happy baby.  The smiles come easy and he is getting so close to laughing and "talking."  We can officially say that we see what all the hype was about with having kids.

BEDTIME RITUAL:

We will be the first to admit that we are very lucky when it comes to putting Jett to bed.  I start by  feeding him sometime between 7:30-8:30.  After that we put him in his pj's, set him in his bed, say a little prayer, and then we walk out of the room and don't hear from him again until 4:30 in the morning.

Here is a little video of Jett during his favorite bedtime ritual:

Makes me want to go get him up right now:).

FIRST DAY OF DAYCARE:

Yesterday it was back to work for me and off to daycare for Jett.  We both did good.  When Jake dropped him off in the morning he was the only kid there (the other kids get there an hour after him).  I think it made us feel better that he got some one on one time at the start of his first day.  I did check in once during the day just to make sure he was taking his bottles ok (which he was).

I got the fun job of picking him up at the end of the day.  I would say absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder.  Tamera (daycare provider) said that he had a pretty good day and enjoyed watching the other kids.  They tried to give him lots of hugs.  She also said that he took a few 45 minute naps and a 3 hour nap.  I'm glad he is able to sleep good while he is there.  He did want to be held a lot while he was there but I'm sure that will get better as he adjusts to everything.

We missed him of course and wished we could go pick him up during lunch but it was also good for us to get into somewhat of a routine.

SHOPPING FAIL:

Here are the stats from Jett's two month appointment:

Height 23.5 inches- 85th percentile
Weight: 12 lbs 12 oz- 75th percentile

Head: 16 inches -87th percentile

Yesterday Jett and I had a spur of the moment trip to Omaha with my mom and sisters.  It started out by Sandra emailing in the morning that she had gotten the day off work.  Pam has Wednesdays off to stay home with her kids so she and I decided we should drive to Omaha to see Sandra, have lunch, and shop.  Luckily mom and Alli didn't want to be left out and mom took the rest of the day off work and Alli met us between her classes.  It was shaping up to be the perfect day with my favorite gals.  I quickly realized that a shopping day with a two month old was going to be quite different from my shopping days of the past.  Since it was such a last minute trip, I ended up forgetting the stroller (big oops).  So I got to carry my 12 lb 12 oz babe around most of the afternoon.  The only thing I bought was a onesie to replace the one that Jett had been wearing before he peed on it in the Gap dressing room.  Yes, I was the girl carrying my baby around in a diaper while picking out a onesie at the Gap.  I was also the girl who was crying at Scooters because I couldn't have any of the drinks due to Jett's possible dairy intolerance.  The highlight was when I got to nurse Jett in a mini van, a bathroom stall, a dressing room, and a place that I'm too embarrassed to mention.  It wasn't the leisurely day I needed but it's always good to be with my family and I did need that.  Jett was really good considering the fact that his mom forgot all of his stuff.  Next time I'll remember the stroller, I will only do bottles, or I will go on a day when Jake can stay home with Jett:).  You live and you learn!

Jake and I took Jett over to meet his daycare provider today (he will start daycare on Monday).  I was a little nervous going over there since it seems so much more real now that maternity leave is almost over.  She put my mind at ease when she told me that there will only be two other kids there on the days that Jett is there (a 10 month old and a 3 year old).  Wish us luck next week!

TWO MONTHS OLD:

Jett turned two months old yesterday.  I can't believe how big he's gotten and how fast it has gone (we will find out for sure how big he is tomorrow at his two month checkup).

I'm happy to report that Jett is now doing much better with taking bottles.  We had to start by giving it to him in his car seat in a moving car, then we moved on to giving it to him in his vibrating chair (with his arms held down:), and now Jake is finally able to give him one while holding him and it is going well.  Phew!  He was very stubborn about that.

Sleep is still going well.  We can put Jett in his bed while he is still awake and he falls asleep on his own.  He is consistently sleeping 8 hrs straight after that.

One thing we have been struggling with is that Jett seems to have an intolerance/sensitivity to something (or several things) that he's getting from breast milk.  We started noticing some blood in his stool when he was 5 weeks old.  We ruled out anything serious by sending in stool samples and were told that it's basically an allergy that he should grow out of.  The problem is finding out what he's sensitive to.  I started by giving up nuts, eggs, wheat, corn, soy and dairy (was planning on reintroducing some of those things after the diapers started clearing up but unfortunately we are still seeing blood in his stool).  Luckily Jett is gaining weight, he's usually pretty content, and he is obviously sleeping well so we don't think he is bothered too much by all of this.  At the same time, it is hard to ignore.  It could be that he simply has a sensitive gut due to the antibiotics that he was put on 10 days after he was born and he will just outgrow it.  We've had him on probiotics for a few weeks and we are hoping it will get better soon.

On Friday night Jett got to hang out with his new friend Georgia again.  Don't you just hate it when your parents make you hang out with their friend's kids?

Yesterday Jett got to see some of his cousins and meet his new cousin Kai.

What a difference two months makes with babies!!

LABOR DAY WEEKEND:

We had a busy 3 day weekend starting with the Husker game on Saturday.  We didn't actually go to the game but we tailgated for a few hours before heading home to watch the game.

I think Jake started thinking about moments like these (watching football together) as soon as we found out we were having a boy:

On Sunday we ventured out to my mom and dad's and had lunch with my family.

Monday we headed to Omaha for lunch with Jake's mom's side of the family.  Jett especially loved cuddling with Grandpa Lyle.

And Max was ok too:)

Tuesday was mine and Jake's 8 year anniversary.  We had great intentions of not letting the day go by without celebrating but we are realizing that it takes a lot of extra planning to go out when you have a baby.  We didn't get a babysitter ahead of time and somehow the day just got away from us.  We looked at each other at 9:00 at night while folding Jett's laundry and said, "Maybe this weekend???"

This morning Jett got to meet his new friend Georgia who is one week old (Andrew and Libby's baby).  Libby and I decided to take advantage of being on maternity leave at the same time and took Georgia and Jett for a walk.  We are looking forward to many more playdates together.
