FIRST HALLOWEEN:

A kid can never have too many halloween outfits, right?  Between hand-me-downs, gifts, and me having too much fun at Baby Gap, Jett ended up with quite the halloween wardrobe.  It has always been a fun Holiday for Jake and I so I figured we should start Jett off right.

THESE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS:

I’ve been meaning to do a post on some of the “must have” products to get through the first few months with a newborn (in no particular order).

1.       My Brest Friend
I was planning on using a boppy for nursing which works fine but after Jett was born I discovered the “brest friend” and it made things so much easier.  It can be very awkward/uncomfortable to nurse at first and I felt like I was always taking forever to get set up with pillows and the boppy.  The “brest friend” actually straps on to you and stays in place and even has a head rest for the baby on both sides.  I know I said that this list was in no particular order but there is a reason why this was the first thing that came to mind when making a list.
2.       NoseFrida (the snotscuker nasal aspirator)
Google it.  It might seem a little gross at first but it’s worth it.  I owe this to my friend Jenny who sent the aspirator to me in the mail after Jett was born.  Jett recently got his first cold and it has helped so much.  It works much better than the bulb syringe that you get from the hospital.  I am someone who can’t stand a buggary nose so I am very appreciative of this find!

3.        Dr. Browns wide neck bottles
I know it can be different for every baby but take it from someone who had a baby who hated bottles that these were what finally worked for us.
4.       Bouncer
Having a bouncer is the best thing to set Jett in when I need to shower, get some work done, cook, etc.   This is something that we use several times a day.  We have the Snugabunny bouncer and we love it.

5.        Swing
I resisted at first because they were so expensive but I realized when Jett was 3 weeks that babies don’t sleep all day and sometimes they cry instead.   It was a small price to pay.  We have the My Little Snugabunny Cradle ’n Swing.  Jett usually takes at least one nap in there every day.

6.       Aden + Anais swaddle blankets
Yes, these cost a little more than your typical swaddle blanket but I think they are worth it.  They are so big and soft.   I prefer the bamboo collection (even softer).

7.        Sound machine
We started using this right away so I can’t say for sure if it has made a difference but since Jett is such a good sleeper,  we aren't about to experiment by taking it away.  It really does seem like babies like a little noise when they are sleeping.

8.        The microwave exhaust fan:)
Ha, I know this isn’t a product but my friend Julie told me that this usually worked when her daughter was fussy.  During Jett’s first couple of months we found that turning it on usually put Jett right to sleep.  And hey, it’s free!

9.       SwaddleMe
I will admit that I never even attempted to swaddle Jett.  Jake was the master at it but I just used the swaddleme sacks (with Velcro) to achieve the perfect burrito.  We used these at nighttime for the first two months.

10.   iPad apps
We downloaded the apps to record his feedings and diapers and it helped a ton because it’s impossible to remember.

11.    Shoe socks
I went out and bought regular socks before Jett was born and none of them ever stayed on.  Luckily we got shoe socks as gifts from a few different people and he wears them almost every day.  They stay on and they look cute.

12.   Play mat
Jett can entertain himself for quite a while on his play mat and this is where he also does the dreaded tummy time.
13.   Plush toys
These were his “first friends.”  Jett  loves the toys that he can chew on and snuggle against his face.

OUR SMILEY GUY:

We've been catching a lot of smiles on camera over the last few months.  Here is a video of some of our favorite smiles!

A NEW ADVENTURE:

We have been so busy lately.  Jake and I keep asking each other when things are going to slow down so we can just have some downtime as a family.  Well, that won’t be happening anytime soon.  This is the year of change for us.  After 5 years of being an independent contractor, Jake is going to be starting a Chiropractic practice of his own along with his friend and fellow Cleveland Chiropractic College alum, Aron Ferguson.  Aron and his wife Amy are great people and we are excited to be taking this leap of faith with them.  Excel Chiropractic and Wellness  will be opening sometime in early 2013.   The location will be right outside of our neighborhood at 78th and Pioneers in this building:

Last Tuesday was “Boss’s day” and Jett and I took Jake out for dinner in celebration of “being his own boss” very soon.  I am looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish and know he has the passion to help a lot of people.  Congratulations Jake!

FOY FAMILY FUN DAY:

Saturday was the 5th Annual "Foy Family Fun Day."  My parents started planning these back in 2006 and we have had one almost every year since then.  Here is how it works.  We get an itinerary a few days before with a few clues about where we are going to get all of us guessing (but usually we have no idea).  We meet at mom and dad's and stop at several surprise locations throughout the day.  This year we went to two wine vineyards, a steakhouse, and then we hit up a small town "Octoberfest" for some dancing on our way home.  I thought it was the best FFFD yet!  Either mom and dad are getting really good at this or I just don't get out much lately:).

While we were having our fun, Jett got to have his own fun.  He spent the day with Mema and Papa (Jake's parents).  He had quite a few visitors (cousin Mady, Great Grandparents, and Great Aunts) to keep him entertained.  And we didn't even have to wonder how he was doing because we got cute pictures and videos like this sent to our phones throughout the day!

JETT AT THREE MONTHS:

The first three months came and went!  Here is what Jett is doing lately:

*Holding his head up a lot better but still hates tummy time
*Smiling at anyone
*Laughing (only at Jake)
*Sleeping anywhere between 9.5-11.5 hrs straight every night (usually somewhere in between)
*Napping for about 3 hours total each day
*Eating 7 times a day (we try to cram these all in between 7:00 A.M and 8:30 P.M)
*Following every move we make with his eyes
*Drooling an insane amount
*Playing on his play mat and entertaining himself for up to 30 minutes at a time
*Chewing on his toys, our shoulders, our arms, etc.

He didn't have a three month checkup but I would estimate that he is a little over 14 lbs.
