THE WEEKEND UPDATE:

This might seem slightly bipolar after reading my last post but we really did have a good weekend.  Friday night Jake and I had what I like to call "my last hurrah before baby."  Jake's cousin Rachel babysat Jett and we went to the Ray Lamontagne concert with friends.  It was exactly what we needed.  A very relaxing outdoor concert with a really fun group.

Saturday night we met up with our friends Sarah and Dave for dinner because they were in Lincoln for a concert.  Jett got to join in this time.  

After dinner we went to the Sunken Gardens to look at the fish and walk around.  It also provided a few (ok, a lot of) photo opportunities:

Yesterday Jett had a playdate with Remi Lou.  They played on their own for the most part but made each other laugh a lot which was fun to watch.

Last night was our nephew Kieran's 6th B-day Party.  Jett had a good time celebrating and playing on their slide!

Love this little boy and the personality that comes out more every day.  Most recently he has been putting a "la" in front of everything.  He sounds like a little french boy.  la mama...la dada...la poop.  You get the picture.

This morning I asked him if he had fun at Kieran's Birthday party.  His response (without being provoked) was, "I love Mema....I like Papa."  Ha ha.  Looks like Papa is going to have to step it up!

We only have one weekend left before the anticipated arrival of our baby girl.  We have made a pact to not make any plans so it goes SLOW!  We want to soak up this time with Jett as much as possible.

"Be Kind; Everyone You Meet is Fighting a Battle"

I usually don't write about these things on here because I like to keep things light/happy but sometimes it doesn't feel right to do the typical "we had a great weekend" post when there is something weighing so heavy on my heart all the time.  The truth is, we usually do have a great weekend but I'd be lying if I said it ended there.  My dad has had health struggles for his entire life.  Things have been particularly rough the last 6-7 years with the last year or so being the hardest.  He has been in the hospital more times than I can remember and the best way to describe it all is very on-going and frustrating.  There isn't a condition or diagnosis that I can use to explain it when someone asks me about it.  It is simply (or complicatedly) a number of issues that have all stemmed from having diabetes since the age of 10.  Of course we are grateful that he is here with us and for all of the obstacles he's made it through.  But the amount of suffering that he goes through on a daily basis is unimaginable to most.  He doesn't complain but it certainly takes a toll.  I'm not sure why I'm saying any of this.  Maybe because it just feels a little fake or wrong to not say anything.  If praying is your thing, please pray for my dad and my strong and positive mom.  Just simply finding someone who cares enough about their case to take some of the burden off their shoulders would be such a blessing.  I love this family that I am lucky enough to be a part of! I am proud of how they handle tough situations.  I just wish the situations were a little less tough!

FATHER'S DAY AND MORE:

We had a great weekend of celebrating.  On Friday we celebrated Pam and Ryan's 10 year Anniversary with my family.  We had dinner and then went to a bar with live music.  Cheers to a great couple and many more happy years of marriage.

Sunday (Father's Day) Jake went fishing in the morning with his dad and brothers.  Jett and I went to see my mom and dad for a few hours and had a nice visit.  Then we headed back to Wahoo to have brunch with Jake's family.  The weather was great that evening so the three of us had dinner at our favorite restaurant on the patio.  Jett is one lucky little guy to have Jake.  He is so selfless when it comes to being a dad and Jett has learned so much from him already.  One of my favorite moments each day is when Jake walks through the door after work and is greeted with an excited "HI BUDDY!"  They are best friends and somehow Jake is kicking my butt in the discipline area too (something I never thought would be the case).  He's been a natural from the beginning and makes it look easy.  I am excited to see him become a dad for the 2nd time in a few weeks because that was definitely one of my favorite parts of Jett being born.

Jett recently got to have a playdate with Eli Wolf and had a great time.  They went to the park and played with all of Eli's toys.  Looking forward to many more fun times together.

We had an ultrasound last week to check on the placenta and found that it had moved to where it was supposed to be (no longer low).  We also confirmed that the baby is head down and in perfect position.  We were really hoping to get a good glimpse of her face since I'm so far along but she had her hands covering it the whole time.  We'll just have to wait a little longer.  The ultrasound tech said again that it was looking like she'd have a decent amount of hair.  She predicted that her weight was in the 5's right now and would probably be in the 7's when she's born.  We'll find out soon enough.

NURSERY REVEAL:

Since we did a nursery reveal video before having Jett, we felt like we should do the same for our baby girl.  After all, Jake and I are both middle children so we must be extra sensitive about #2 being the "forgotten child."  We also think it will be fun for our kids to be able to watch these videos someday and see us in preparation mode before their arrival.  It feels great to have the room ready.  As you can see, we had an awesome little helper this time!

BIRTHDAY AND MORE:

This last week we decided to let Jett do a few small paintings for his sister's room.  We weren't sure how they would turn out but with a little guidance from Jake (and good placement of the drops of color), they actually turned out way better than expected.  Jett had a lot of fun doing it and I think it will make him feel special when he sees them hanging up in his sister's room.

I had a great Birthday!  My week started with a surprise edible arrangement delivery from my co-workers!  Considering the fact that I work from home (3 hours away from all of them), they obviously know me well.

On the day of my Birthday Jake made me a yummy breakfast. 

Can you tell that fruit and chocolate are my biggest cravings this pregnancy?  There are times where I eat over a half watermelon a day by myself!  It is pretty disgusting actually.  Anyway, I had the day off on my Birthday (something I've done ever since I started working at Cleveland 10 years ago...smartest thing ever) and still took Jett to daycare.  First I went shopping and purchased some very exciting Birthday gifts for myself (a nursing bra and a diaper bag...ha).  Jake took a long lunch so we went out to eat and got to spend some time at the pool together thanks to our friend Abbey (apartment pool codes are the best). 

That evening we went to Wilderness Ridge to have dinner on the patio and listen to live music.  My ideal night!  I had a generous babysitting offer but really wanted Jett to go with us for some reason.  It was beautiful outside and Jake's parents met us there to eat.  Jett actually did great and we were able to stay from 7:00-11:00 and watch the entire show.  Made my night!

I've been wanting to order a "mocktail" this entire pregnancy and finally got around to it.  This berry smash was worth the wait.  Unfortunately I had to share with Jett.

32 should be a great year and I'm sure it will fly by with everything we have coming up.  3.5 weeks or less until we meet our little girl!

LAST MONTH AS A FAMILY OF THREE:

Well, it is June 1st which means we are just one month away from the arrival of our baby girl!  We have a busy month ahead but are going to try to get as much quality time in with the three of us as possible.  And of course we want to see other people too before life gets a little crazier.

One of the things I have the hardest time with (coming from a family of girls) are all of the bumps and bruises that can come along with having a little boy.  I can't stand it when Jett gets hurt but I guess I can't protect him forever.  These were both minor injuries but last week he cut the side of his eye on a chair and the very next night he cut his lip open on a slide.  He is getting more brave and independent and I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it!

We spent both afternoons this weekend outside in Jett's pool.  It was perfect weather for it.  Addison and Mason came over on Saturday and joined us and everyone had a great time!

On Saturday night Jett had a babysitter while Jake and I went to an "adults only" house warming party.  Adults only...such a beautiful thing sometimes.  We had a great time catching up with friends on a gorgeous night with zero distractions!  The only thing missing for me was an alcoholic beverage but I can definitely have fun without!

There are a lot of differences between being pregnant with baby number two and baby number one.  For example, I never know how many weeks I am (I usually just say the due date or how much time is left).  I have no idea what is happening from week to week (what size the baby is, what is developing, etc).  I don't worry about things or spend much time on google trying to see if what I'm experiencing is normal.  I really don't have much time to think about any of it at all.  But our little girl does a great job of reminding me that she is in there.  She has been super active (especially at night).  I had an appointment this week and my doctor said she is measuring right on schedule.  Can't wait to meet her.  We keep wondering if she'll look like Jett or completely different.  We'll find out soon enough...
