THANKFUL:

I saw this quote recently and thought it would be a good way to start the blog this week:

When your children arrive, your heart becomes a room with wide-open windows.  You laugh hard every day.  You think about the future and read about global warming.  You realize how nice it feels to care about someone else more than yourself.  And gradually, you start to see the world a little more.  It can be hard, this life.  Beautiful too.  Mine is beautiful, mostly.  Lucky me.  -Amy Poehler

WHAT I'M THANKFUL FOR (THE SHORT LIST):

1. God.  For giving me everything  that I have to be grateful about!

2. Jake.  Although quality time together is currently few and far between I could not be more happy about the person who I am lucky enough to call my husband.  When I think of our little family and the life we are creating I know that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be with exactly who I'm supposed to be with.  He's so passionate about everything he believes that sometimes I have to roll my eyes.  But I'm lucky that he has that same passion for his family.  Everything he does, he does for us!

3.  My littles.  Most days all I have to do is look at their sweet faces to feel thankful. There are often moments where they both want me at the same time and it doesn't feel like there is enough of me to go around.  At the same time it is so cool to be "that person" for them.  The person who makes all of their problems go away.   Their personalities grow more all the time and its so fun to watch them become little people!
P.S  I am also thankful that when Jett split his chin open at daycare yesterday that the doctor was able to glue it shut rather than give him stitches!!!!!  Also happy that neither of us cried:).

4.  My parents.   I certainly wouldn't be where I am today without them.  I always thought they were strict but now that I have my own kids I'm thinking they were a little too easy on us:).   I have a whole new appreciation for everything they've done for me!

5.  My sisters.  I admire them so much and wish they wouldn't all raise the bar so high sometimes:).  I always think the best way to describe us is that we have a lot of differences but we all laugh (loudly) at the same things.  I think our sense of humor is kind of our common ground.   When you need someone to relate to you, sisters are the best!

6. My in-laws.  There is nothing like marrying in to another support system.  Mema and Papa are such good grandparents too and my kids are so lucky to have them.

7. Grandparents (mine and Jake's).  It's so fun getting to know them more as I get older and finding out what makes them the way they are.

8. Nieces and Nephews.  Mine are the cutest:).

9. Friends.  I have everything I could ever need or want in this category (except I wish they all lived in my neighborhood).  I'm so appreciative of the friendships I've been able to maintain over the years.  I feel like I know where I stand with all of them and can just be myself.

10. Job.  10 years later I'm still there and really love it.  Being with the same company for such a long time has paid off for me.  Because of the business relationships I've made, my job has gotten easier and more rewarding.  For me, the grass is not greener on the other side.  I always know when I have it good and don't overthink it too much.

11. Jake's Business.  I am so proud of Jake for taking a leap of faith and starting his own practice.  We have no regrets about it (other than not doing it sooner).  Although it is stressful at times, it is a good kind of stress to have.  I'm so glad Jake is able to do what he loves and help so many people in the process.  I'm also so happy that we are doing this with Jake's business partner (Aron) and his wife (Amy).  I love how we don't feel any sort of competition with them and just want to see everyone do well.

12. Home.  I often think about how I'd like to redecorate, the house should be more clean,  or how I wish we had this or that (I think that is just human nature).  But in reality we really have everything we need and none of that matters.  I'm grateful that we have a place that we all think of as home where we are creating new memories every day!

Here are just a few photos from the last few weeks since I haven't blogged in a while!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

HALLOWEEN AND JOSS IS FOUR MONTHS:

Both kids had a good Halloween.  Jake took off work a little early and I made some chili so we could eat and get out of the house to trick or treat.  I say "trick or treat" but I guess we only went to two houses.  First we went to Tamra's (daycare) and Jett's bestie Mady happened to be there at the same time so he was excited about that.  After spending a little time over there we headed to Jake's aunt Letti's house.  Jett loves going over there and once they got the toy trains out for him to play with, he was no longer interested in trick or treating.  Joss loved the attention she received too.  She is a typical 2nd child starving for any attention she can get:).

Here are a few photos from Halloween week:

On Saturday we got to visit all grandparents and great-grandparents in the same day!  Jake took this sweet photo of Joss and Grandma Leona watching football:

GO HUSKERS!

Jett got his first pet over the weekend.  A caterpillar.  After spending one night with us he released it back into the wild:).

In other Jett news, he has pooped on the toilet twice this last week.  It's pretty easy to get him to do this since he is predictable as far as when he goes.  Potty is a different story and will definitely take some time.

Joss turned 4 months on Monday.  She is now 14 lbs (60th %) and 25 inches (77th %).

Her 4 month checkup went great and our only current concern with her is that she's becoming a little bit of a thumb sucker!  It's kind of sweet but not a habit we want to start which means that we are now using a pacifier (we pop it in whenever we see her with her thumb in her mouth).

She is rolling over both ways and propping herself up like this.  Getting so big!!

Here is what else Joss is doing at 4 months:
-Eating 7-8 times per day (4 ounces each time)
-Sleeping about 9 hours at night.  Waking to eat.  Then sleeping another 2-3 hours (at least that is what she's been doing the last 6 days)
-Laughing a little (no belly laughs yet)
-Babbling a ton (this girl likes to yell)
-Holding her head up really well
-Grasping and holding some objects
-Drooling a ton (possibly working on some teeth)
-Taking one long nap and two short naps most days

Thanks to her cousin Mady for this cute outfit!

She doesn't fall asleep in my arms very often anymore.  But when she does, it is pretty much my favorite!

One more pic to end this post.  Could Jett and his cousin Kai look any happier in this picture?
