We stayed home on NYE and celebrated with the kids. We got our favorite Thai food to-go along with a few of our favorite treats. After dinner we had a dance party and eventually did a countdown around 8:00. Actually we counted up because counting down is way too confusing when you have kids this little! The kids had so much fun the first time we threw the confetti that we had to do it a 2nd time. Jett and I also went outside and did some snaps on the porch.
Jake and I did get some time alone to go out for a New Years lunch.
January is always a good time to set some goals. We always have a lot of them but one of the main ones we talked about this year is trying to figure out where we want to live. We aren’t ready to move right now but we want to figure out where our next move should be and where our kids would eventually go to school…..whether that just be a neighborhood close by or somewhere outside of Lincoln. It’s such a big decision to decide where you want your kids to grow up!
The kids have been growing like crazy! Joss turned 18 months on January 3rd and Jett will be 3 ½ on January 9th.
I will regret typing this (I’m superstitious) but Joss has been a lot more compliant recently. Now that her communication skills are getting better, she is listening more, understanding more, and just overall turning into more of a sweetheart. It’s so nice to be able to explain to her why we are doing something or what we are doing instead of her just assuming that we are torturing her for the fun of it. Like when she has to wait for food or get her diaper changed for example (we are so mean). She loves dark chocolate (like me) and calls it “bock-o-lock.” We can use it to bribe her to do almost anythingJ. Her favorite toys are her slide and her babies. She loves just following Jett around and mimicking everything he does.
I thought it would be a good time to tell some new stories about Jett since he’s at such a great age for saying sweet and funny things.
-The other day he was eating dinner and said, “Mom, I don’t want God to be up in the sky. I want him to be sitting here with me!” I explained to him that he could talk to God whenever he wanted and that God was always with him and he said, “Awww, that’s sweet!”
-He DOES NOT want to get big. People will often think they are giving him a compliment by telling him that he’s getting big and he immediately responds with, “But I don’t want to get big. I want to stay little.” This is a daily conversation that he and I have. I’ve finally just started agreeing with him that he can stay little forever. He has decided that he and I are going to stay little and that Joss and his dad are going to get big.
When people ask who Jett takes after, I’d have to say it’s 50/50. Here are a few stories that demonstrate the ways he takes after each of us:
- As far as competitiveness goes, he is currently taking after me. I’ve never cared that much about winning. I always just want everyone to have fun. Jett is a lot like that right now. If we are playing a board game and he wins he’ll say, “Mom, I winned you this time but we can play again and you can win me.”
-He is like his dad in the way that he is always “just kidding.” It can be anything from telling me that he doesn’t like treats (just kidding) to telling me that he wants a Lara Bar for breakfast (just kidding…because he already had one).
-He is a conversationalist and a charmer (his dad). He loves getting his haircut and he chats with the stylist the whole time. The last time he went in while the lady was cutting the front of his hair he randomly said, "Good job not cutting your fingers!" Then this time when he went his stylist had her hair up instead of down and he said, "Your hair looks cute like that!"
-He is like me in the way that he memorizes jingles and says or sings them at random times (not annoying at all). Some of his favorites are saying “Time Warner Cable…Enjoy Better” and whenever he asks me if he we can do an activity, he’ll instantly break out into singing “ACTIVIA” from the yogurt commercial.

-He gets his frustrated noises from his dad. He is very quick to sigh or groan whenever he doesn’t get his way and Joss does the same thing.
These little people can be so fun sometimes! It's neat and also a little scary when you realize that they are turning out kind of like you.
