What do you do during a tornado warning that is 3 hours long? Apparently you catch up on the blog! Or at least that is what I'm doing.
A few weeks ago Angela, Alex, and Eli came over after the Nebraska Spring game and we had a great time catching up with them (like always).
We have found a new favorite restaurant in Lincoln called the Hub Cafe. Seriously, we are in love with this place. So much so that Jake took pictures of all of our food last time we went there and labeled each picture:)!
And if the food wasn't enough of a reason to go, they also have a walking trail, water fountains, discovery area, and some play equipment nearby so it is a favorite for all four of us!
For dessert we like to take our favorite treats from Goldenrod pastries to eat outside afterwards. It probably seems like I am trying to do some advertising in my blog will all this business name dropping, but we just love these places so much (plus I only have 3 followers so advertising wouldn't be very affective).
The pics below are from a Friday night at Holmes lake a few weeks ago. It was a good way to start the weekend but apparently everyone else in Lincoln had the same idea (big crowds and play equipment give this mom anxiety so we mainly stuck to walking around the lake)!
Jett really got into May Day this year. We had about 6 stops that we made and Jett had a few friends deliver to our house too. Joss was definitely confused about why we were going up to people's doors and not going inside but she followed Jett's lead.
Jett has been a lot more interested in helping with chores lately. We have been giving him a weekly allowance for helping out more around the house. He helps unload the dishwasher, hangs the laundry, sometimes puts his trains away, and especially likes to help his dad outside. He has even been making some money at daycare helping Tamra's husband pull weeds.
We've had a lot of days that have felt like summer lately and we are taking full advantage!
Jake took the kids to Jurassic Quest over the weekend when I was in North Bend with my family. They got to pet baby dinosaurs and see some pretty cool big ones too!
I had a great Mother's Day. We saw our moms on Saturday and went to dinner Saturday night with the kids. On Sunday I received breakfast in bed. I was attempting to sleep in at first but all I could hear was Joss saying "mom...mom...mommy" over and over and Jett was talking really loud while making me a card and helping Jake with my breakfast. I closed my eyes as I heard them stumbling up the stairs carrying everything and of course acted surprised. It was sweet and they were proud. After that we went to church and hung out the rest of the day at home.

Being a mom definitely isn't easy. And even though it comes with so many proud moments and so much joy, it also comes with a lot of guilt. I physically hurt when they get hurt. And when I put them to bed at night I am relieved that they made it through another day alive (mainly Joss)! I also feel a little sad wondering if they had a fun enough day or if maybe I should have kept them up a little longer to snuggle or play. No matter what, it never feels like quite enough. I guess that is what it is like to be a mom. You feel things on a different level. And you want to be a better person every day because no one deserves it more than your kids.
JETT ALLAN:
His compliment game is strong. He comes home from daycare and tells me "thank you for working for our family." He tells me (and Joss) that we are adorable, beautiful and sweet and that he "loves us really bad!" Almost everything that comes out of his mouth makes us laugh. We were recently telling him about how we used to talk to him when he was in my stomach. He acted like he remembered it so I said, "What were you doing when you were in there?" He said, "I was just sleeping in there with all your throw-up around me."
JOSS ELLE:
My determined little "big girl." She loves to be right in the middle of the action. She has absolutely no fear. She is a mamas girl but loves her dad to put her to bed at night (because he is so much more fun...and she can buy an extra 10 minutes with him). She never wants to see anyone upset. If you act upset she will grab your face and give you a kiss. She is SO STRONG. There will be times that I will complain to Jake that she won't let me change her diaper or put her in her car seat. He will say, "You are the adult, MAKE HER." I wish it were that easy! I think she could kick my butt!
When I see the funny and sweet little people they are becoming, it is completely worth all of hard work!
